Radim Marada: Modalities of Boredom
The presentation is a conventional historical-sociological exploration into the modern process of establishing boredom in its two basic cultural modalities: boredom as a tormenting state of paralysis/inactivity, and boredom as an attribute of a dull monotonous activity. While most literature on boredom (not just in sociology) sidelines this distinction, the attempt will be made to show the analytical advantage (at least in sociology) of taking the differences between various regimes of boredom seriously.
