Annual Conference organized by the Center for Cultural Sociology and the Department of Sociology at Masaryk University

19th Annual Conference

October 18-19, 2019, Masaryk University

The Center for Cultural Sociology and the Department of Sociology at Masaryk University are pleased to announce the Eighteenth Annual Conference on Conflict in Identities, Identities in Conflict. The conference will take place from 18th to 19th October 2019, and will be held at the Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic.

The aim of the conference is to discuss the concept of identity in a broad variety of contexts (for example, nationality, religion, ethnicity, gender, generations, and class, and also memory, social rituals, everyday encounters, the arts, consumption, etc.), and to test the concept's analytical power and limitations. With this goal in mind, we invite the submission of historical and theoretically framed conceptual analyses as well as papers that contribute to a critical examination of the field of cultural sociology in general.

In order to create a productive and pleasant working environment for the participants, the format of the conference is rather flexible. There is no strictly fixed time limit for presentations: the maximum duration is 45 minutes, but 15-minute papers are also welcomed. The total time for each presentation and discussion is 60 minutes. This annual gathering brings together senior and junior scholars, and those who have attended the conference in the past will be familiar with its unique spirit of dialogue.
